Who we are

Sophie Lou Jacobsen is a French-American designer, artist, creative director and founder of an eponymous lifestyle brand based in New York’s Lower East Side. Established in 2020, the SLJ name has become synonymous with pleasing and practical design, offering elegant homewares, lighting, and collectible objects from the classic Ripple Cup and Wave Pitcher to the globally-recognized FLORA lighting collection. Elevating prosaic objects into poetic works of art, Sophie’s practice pays homage to domestic and aesthetic gestures of the past while leaning toward the future.

The SLJ studio has seen tremendous growth since its inception, growing from a one woman operation to a full-fledged creative studio with a multidisciplinary team of talented partners, collaborators, and team members. SLJ objects can be found all over the world from New York to Paris and have been featured in Architectural Digest, Vogue, The World of Interiors, Elle Decor, and many more. Explore our world here.

What we’re looking for

We’re in an exciting period of growth that calls for a dedicated, part time Studio Assistant to join our small, tight-knit team. We’re looking for someone who shares our affinity and respect for meaningful design, considered spaces, and the art of living.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer and working directly with the Founder and Designer, our Studio Assistant would play a vital, behind-the-scenes role in keeping our creative world running smoothly. Equal parts studio steward, project wrangler, and logistical lifesaver, this person ensures that our day-to-day studio operations — from production and shipping to inboxes and inventory — stay beautifully organized and on track.

Our ideal candidate would be hungry to learn all the in’s and out’s of the niche design circles that we run in here in New York and would be excited by the idea of learning everything about how the studio is run, from soup to nuts. Our office is hands-on and fast-paced, creative and kind. We value camaraderie, communication and clever, collaborative systems. The right person for this role will love a good checklist, can shift effortlessly between admin, errands, and solution-oriented troubleshooting. If you’re meticulous, proactive, and confident in roles where you learn and grow as you go, we would love to hear from you.
